Sinhagad fort is situated 30 km in southwest of pune city . Sinhagad means Lion's place . This fort is at approximate 800 meter above the surrounding countryside .
This fort got this name after the battel of March 1670 . This battle was fought to recapture by Shivaji .
A great warrior Tanaji Malsure was general of Shiva ji at that time . In this fight , Tanaji lost his life but his courage and bravery win this fort .
After hearing the news of Tanaji death , Shivaji said "Gad aala pan Sinha gala" . And by this statement this fort got name of Sinhagad.
Sinhagad has beautiful scenic views along with great history .On the way of Sinhagad , Khadakwasla Dam which is situated at 20 km from pune city has a good place to stay and enjoy at the bank .
